Acoustic Trail has been hosting house concerts since 2006, bringing in local, regional and national acts into the four corners region.
Randall Davis opened his historic ranch home to 55 enthusiastic listeners for a night of "The Colorado Playboys." Guests brought pot luck dishes and cheer to share. At this first house concert, "Up The Creek," a local band, opened the evening and good times were had by all. Our second show was also at the Davis ranch with Asheville, North Carolina's "Town Mountain" performing a set of toe tapping roots/country/bluegrass music. 50 plus people drove through a February snowstorm for the intimate experience!
Acoustic Trail continues to provide house concerts in the four corners region and our long term goal is to find a more permanent venue to hold larger events. We are currently compiling a working list of local and visiting musicians of the Four Corners area to participate in events throughout 2009. When an event is scheduled, the participating musicians will visit local schools or children’s groups for special performances prior to the main event. This interaction will expose many young people to new kinds of music and it is our hope that it will inspire some of them to pick up an instrument.
Future house concerts and other Acoustic Trail events will incorporate not just music, but other aspects of art from the community. Photography, sculpture, paintings and other fine art will be a part of the overall experience at each venue. We plan to incorporate our local youth by promoting their musical and artistic talents at our events.
Our long-term goal is to implement a mentoring program that links local musicians with local children and adults interested in learning to play. We would like to secure a location in Pagosa Springs where structured learning sessions can take place. This location would also serve as the office/information hub of Acoustic Trail, Inc. Eventually we would like to raise enough money to purchase instruments or have a program where people may donate instruments that can be used by those who may not be able to afford their own.
